PIZZA DAY

Tomorrow, Thursday, November 23rd is Pizza Day.

P.D. DAY

Friday, November 24th is a Professional Development Day. There is no school for students.

WHITE ELEPHANT SALE - Change of Date

The White Elephant Rummage Sale and Bake Sale has been changed to Thursday, December 21st. The Grade 6 students are organizing this fundraiser for the year end trip to St. Brigid Camp. They are still looking for donations of toys, movies, kitchen and household items, jewelry, nick knacks, etc. Please send the items with your child or drop at the main office. We are also looking for donations of Christmas Wrap and Tape to wrap the gifts.

WINTER WEATHER

Winter is approaching fast which brings the possibility of "snow days". Here are a few reminders:

1. When school buses/vans are cancelled due to inclement weather schools and extended day programs remain open.

2. Transportation cancellations are for the entire day; students who are dropped off must also be picked up at the regular dismissal time of 3:00 pm.

3. If your child normally uses school bus transportation you do not need to report their absence to the school these days.

4. Students who normally do not take the bus/van must report their absence by leaving a voicemail on the school line: 613-830-2454.

5. Sign up for direct notification of school bus/van cancellations here: Bus Cancellations. Cancellations will also be reported on ocsb.ca, ottawaschoolbus.ca, twitter and the media (we are the Ottawa Catholic School Board).

6. Students remain indoors at recess when the temperature reaches -25C or colder. Please make sure children are prepared to go outside each day with boots, snow pants, hats, scarves, extra gloves and extra socks.

LATE ARRIVALS

We are repeating this very important message because late arrivals continue to be a problem.

Because St. Brother Andre School is committed to improving student achievement, we are concerned when a child arrives late to school for any reason. The process of education requires instruction that is based on skill building, class participation, learning experiences and study. Frequent lates affect your child’s learning opportunities. When students have too many absences and/or lates, they are missing valuable classroom instructional time.

The Education Act of Ontario, 1989, Sec.20 (5) states that, “the parent or guardian of a child who is

required to attend school under the section shall cause the child to attend school as required by this Section.” Regulation 262 (1989), Sec 23 (d) under The Education Act of Ontario, 1989 states that “A pupil shall attend class punctually and regularly”.

We work very hard to ensure that your child receives the best education possible and are certain that you share our concern regarding missed instruction. Please help us to provide the outstanding education your child deserves by ensuring that your child is at school each day to participate in the learning on time.

The school bell rings at 8:30 and if your child is not in the schoolyard when the bell rings they are

considered late and must be signed in at the office. Because children in JK-6 are under the age of 16

they are required to be signed in by a parent/guardian. A special reminder for students who are at the school on a Cross Boundary transfer that chronic absences/lateness is grounds for cancellation. For the benefit of your child’s success, we thank you in advance for your support in this matter.
