The three ­year theme represents a natural progression for the Board, as it provides a way for our staff,  students and community to dig deeper in the Gospel to make real and meaningful connections.

The third year of the spiritual theme based on Micah 6: 8 will focus on our humble journey with our God. According to Leo Laberge, O.M.I., this humility requires looking to live in a way that is in keeping with the vision or desire of God. Our humility calls us to prayer, to worship, and to ritual.  In other words, the prophet was calling the people to live their faith through sacred worship.  Such humility calls us to share faith with others in a way that is respectful and invitational. We are called to the humility of Jesus who dined with tax collectors and fishermen.  The ministry of Jesus was inclusive and models a sense of finding God in all people and all places.  


I would like to wish everyone a warm welcome as we start off a new school year. The staff has been eagerly

preparing for the upcoming year as we welcome the students back from an extended break from school and into a new school environment. I am honoured to once again be taking on the role of principal to such a dynamic group of staff that are looking forward to working in partnership with you, the parish, and community in providing the learning that will help foster your child’s growth during this unique time.

Parent/School communication is the cornerstone of student success. Again this year, we will have a progress report and two report card periods. You are encouraged to contact your child’s teacher or me at any time throughout the year to discuss his or her progress. Parents know their children best and any information that you believe would help us in designing a program for your child’s success would be greatly appreciated.  It will be important to check the School website often, Parent Portal, and emails from the school and your child’s educator for up-to-date information.

The recommendation of the school board is to have parents verify student information via the parent portal. This information is pulled from PowerSchool.  Should you have new or changed information, please email the school with any changes at . All of the information regarding registration and access to the Parent Portal is found on our website at Staff have been hired to troubleshoot any issues with the portal for the first few weeks of school.

Staffing is based on enrollment projections and may be subject to change. We should receive the final staffing

The School Day for students is from 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Grades 1-6:

Morning Recess: 9:45—10:00 a.m.

Lunch Hour: 11:15 a.m. —12:15 p.m.

Afternoon Recess: 1:30—1:45 p.m.

***Kindergarten Students are on their own schedule to be determined by the teachers.

Morning drop off begins at 8:15 a.m. Therefore, for safety reasons, it is in the best interests of children who

walk, ride their bicycles or receive a ride from a parent/guardian not to arrive prior to 8:15 a.m. and arrive before 8:30 a.m. so they are not late.


Guests are not permitted in the school at this time.  Students that arrive after the bell or from appointments need to be buzzed in to enter the school. For the safety and protection of the students, all doors are kept locked during instructional time.

At dismissal and drop off time, there is supervision provided to ensure children safely leave the schoolyard and/or safely board the bus. Staff who are on duty wear bright  vests to ensure that they can be quickly and easily located by children on the yard. Walkie Talkies are carried, to allow for immediate communication between staff on the yard and the front office. Children in Grade 1 to 6 are to be dropped off/picked up at the back gate by the schoolyard.  We request that the accompanying adult not enter the yard. Kindergarten students are picked up at the grass area in front of their classroom door. For those coming across the park area at the back of the school, drop off would be at the edge of the asphalt. This allows teachers on duty to better monitor the yard. The same areas would be designated for pickup.

Children are advised to return to the office should their regular pickup not be waiting for them.  Parents are not permitted in the school yard.  

Bicycles at School: All students riding their bicycles to school must wear a helmet. Locks must be used when the

bicycles are placed in the appropriate stands in the yard. All students must walk their bicycles on school property. We

cannot be responsible for damage to bicycles.

Emergency School Closing: In the event that our school closes in the middle of the day for emergency reasons, your

child should have a prearranged location; a friend or neighbour etc., where s/he can wait if you are not at home.

All parents/guardians would be contacted if the school were to close.  During snow days, when busses are not running, schools remain open but parents are responsible for transporting their students to and from school.

Bus Lane for Buses Only! At the front of the school, there is a designated lane for school buses. This lane is used by our buses when they arrive at school for student drop off and after school for student pick up. If you are dropping off  or picking up your child at school, please do not park in the designated school bus lane. 

Student Information: Up-to-date information regarding your child is very important in case of an emergency during school hours. If there are any changes to your child's current record, please notify the school immediately. Please see the information above for Student Verification forms. Kindly review the information and inform the school of any changes by Friday September 18th .

No Electronics at School: We ask that parents ensure their child keeps any valuables and electronics at home during

school time (Please info your child’s teachers if your child will be bringing in their own Chromebook). Should your child have a cell phone at school,the phone MUST be turned off and left in his/her school bag. The school cannot be responsible for any lost or stolen items.

Indoor/Outdoor Shoes: In order to keep our school clean, and for your child’s safety, we are requesting that students have an indoor pair of shoes and that they put them on immediately upon entering the school. Soles should be non marking.

Drop Off and Pick Up: To ensure the safety of all our students, maintaining routines of dropoff and pickup

are extremely important. If a child takes the bus, then it is expected that every day the child will take the bus. If a child walks or rides a bike, then this is the expected daily routine. Please advise the office if there is a change in drop off and/or pick up routines.

Absences and Late Arrivals: Attendance at school is very important. If your child is to be absent, parents are asked to

call the school. Please leave your child's full name and grade (e.g. 4A) as well as the reason for the absence or late arrival (e.g. illness/ appointment/vacation/sport event/music). Children arriving late MUST report to the office. An answering machine is available 24hrs a day.


Sick Children: For the protection of our students and staff, kindly keep your child at home in times of illness, until they are completely well . Please follow the guidelines set out by Ottawa Public Health.

Please use the Ottawa Public Health Screening tool for students each day.


 A student should not be sent with a request to remain indoors during recess or lunch hour. Recess and lunch hours are part of the school day and the school is organized and staff is allocated accordingly. Please do not send your child to school with undiagnosed rashes or skin complaints. The school is obligated to contact parents when such cases present themselves and the student must be picked up and should not return until the cause is identified. In the event of an injury, e.g. broken leg, asthmatic condition or other long term disability or where a doctor's certificate is provided, special accommodation will be made.

Epipen, Food Allergies, Inhalers, Allergens:

1 If your child has life threatening allergies or reactions, asthma, or any medical conditions, etc. and requires an

EPIPEN or other medications (puffers, pills, etc.), you and your physician need to complete a "Request and

Consent for Administration of Medication" form and return it to the school with the medication(s). N.B. These forms

must be completed each year.  Please be sure to indicate an alternate "Emergency Medical Contact" in case we cannot reach you.

2 If your child requires an Epipen, they must wear it at all times in a pouch and wear a medicalert bracelet. A

second Epipen must be stored at the front office.

3 As you are probably aware, we have several students with severe allergies to nuts and peanuts. We would like to thank you for continuing to avoid sending any products that do or may contain nuts/peanuts or sesame seeds of any kind to school with your child. Students are also reminded that there is no eating allowed on the bus. If children who have peanut allergies come into contact, either by smell, touch or ingestion with peanuts, they can experience an allergic reaction. Should you have any questions, concerns or suggestions, please do not hesitate to call.

4 We are a scent free school so please avoid sending hand sanitizer that is scented with something other than aloe.

Pediculosis (Lice): The Ottawa Carleton Health Department no longer checks schools for head lice. Parents are asked to check their children on a regular basis. Nits (eggs) are oval shaped and stick to the hair. Treatment with special shampoo is required. It is not uncommon for children returning from summer camp, etc. to pick up pediculosis.If you have any questions, please contact the school.

Fifth’s Disease - Please let us know!: Fifth’s Disease is a very mild childhood illness that presents itself with an initial

“slapped cheek” rash. The disease is quite harmless and can often go unnoticed and is not considered reportable under the Ottawa Carleton Health Department guidelines. The Health Department, however, does advise that some caution be exercised for pregnant women, if not immune, as there is some risk to the health of an unborn baby. For the safety of our staff, as well as our volunteer parents, we ask that you report any cases of Fifth’s to the school office as soon as your child has been diagnosed.

Suspected Child Abuse:

"In accordance with the Child and Family Services Act, 1984 , it is the policy of the Ottawa Catholic School Board that all employees shall report suspected cases of child abuse". It is the role of the Children's Aid Society, to whom we report, to investigate such a report. If your child is bruised or marked from an accident, you may wish to let the teacher know the circumstances. Should a report be made to the Children's Aid society, please understand that we are complying with the law and have the best interest of your child in mind.

Tips for a Safe Lunch Box:

Keeping cold foods cold (4°C or below):

∙Place a frozen ice pack, water bottle or juice box beside the cold foods.

∙Use an insulated lunch bag and keep it away from any heat sources.

∙Fresh foods like cut fruit, veggies, meat, eggs, mayo, pasta, rice, milk products and leftovers cannot be left at

room temperature for more than 2 hours.

Keeping hot foods hot (60°C or higher):

∙Use an insulated food jar for foods like soup, chili, stew and leftovers so they are still hot at lunch.

∙In the morning, preheat the insulated food jar by adding boiling water and letting it sit for a few minutes. Heat the

food in the microwave or stove top. Empty the food jar of the boiling water and fill it with the hot food.

Keeping the lunch box clean:

∙Wash the lunch bag or box often with warm soapy water.

∙Wash fruits and vegetables before cutting up or eating.
